SkywardScribe
Birds and plants and I have something in common: we all have an innate longing to reach for the Light; to touch the sky; a yearning that is at the root of all of my work and that I see reflected in nature and people in a million ways. As C. S. Lewis says so potently, “The sweetest thing in all my life has been the longing — to reach the Mountain, to find the place where all the beauty came from — my country, the place where I ought to have been born.” Skyward is so much more than just a direction; is a rallying cry that infuses all my work with purpose and promise.
“Scribe” is a nod to my passion for calligraphy, words, truth, and painting. It represents the art of capturing thoughts and emotions in elegant strokes, and communicating the deepest feelings of the soul with clarity, truth, and beauty.
At the heart of the name SkywardScribe lies my greatest hope – to be a bearer of hope itself and to never stop chasing the Light.
The Story
SkywardScribe, my plantable seed card-selling business, sprouted from a unique beginning in 2015, quite literally starting in a shower. As a high school student, you could often find me painting birds, plants, and crafting calligraphy on my bathroom floor, working tirelessly into the night amid paint splatters and glorious mess.
Since those humble beginnings, I pursued a double major in Studio Art and Art History at Carleton College, traveled the world to study painting, interned at a renowned Los Angeles stained glass studio, and engaged in various creative ventures as a freelance artist, from illustrating children’s books to designing book covers and business logos, to starting an Etsy shop in 2021.
Amid this journey, I found my true passion when I established my official small business in Minnesota, specializing in plantable seed cards. This endeavor combines many of my greatest loves. As a lifelong letter-writer, I am deeply grateful for the chance to promote kindness through the written word. As an ardent nature enthusiast, and Minnesota Master Gardener in training, I find immense joy in sharing seeds, contributing to a greener world, and making the planet a more vibrant and flourishing place.
SkywardScribe is the culmination of all of these passions and experiences, reflecting my commitment to creativity, nature, and fostering human connections.
